Multiculturalism vs Creativity City

As a cosmopolitan city, an open and diverse urban personality is very important. For a long time, Hong Kong has been a leader in Southeast Asia with the characteristics of openness and diversity. Due to its combination of Chinese and western cultural characteristics, cultural art are in full bloom, and different ideas and creativity have shined on this land.

Creating a "creative city" through art is the driving force behind the transformation of today's society. "The creativity and imagination required by art, the courage to break through and challenge, the attitude and skills of always wanting to change and update are the driving forces for breaking through the frame and promoting social improvement" (Yu Shude, 2004) 1. A “creative city” needs the leadership of the “creative class”. Neil Pierce (2022) pointed out that “the creative class (the newly wealthy class) needs a variety of cultural life, and cities that ignore this need will fall behind in economic competition”2 .

Taking South Korea in the past three decades as an example, under the efforts of the government, South Korea’s soft cultural power was successfully activated, allowing the creative industry to successfully enter the international market, affecting Asia and the world.

Culture, creativity, and vitality come from the people. As long as the climate is suitable, they will grow up.
